Elderly Man @ Jurong East Library Reading Newspaper

It was in the evening when I was waiting for Hsinying in Jurong East Library. There was a cosy corner for people to idle, sit around and read. I got my sketchpad and start to wonder what to do with it... then in a couple of minutes... ehem!... =p hehe...

MBA Graduation Caricature for Hsinying on 27th July 2009

(Hsinying and the Ceremony Hall)

Hsinying (my wife) had her graduation ceremony in NTU. Together with the MBAs were the Accountant graduates. There were so many of them the clapping volumn in the hall keep diminishing only a micron decibel meter can read. Then suddenly everyone woke up and gave a rousing applause complete with cat calls. Some stood up with gladness. It was the last name in the list of graduates.

You can guess that it was pretty boring to be sitting in such an event. The only exciting part is only when you see your love ones one the stage receiving the certificate. 99% of the time you clap for stangers whom you might not meet for the rest of your life.

When I became bored I usually do one of the two things. Read or draw. I remembered taking a photo of Hsinying. I also had a drawing pad and pencil with me (all the time). And I decided to do a graduation caricature for Hsinying on the spot while the rest of the strangers went on stage one by one. =)

Church Camp Booklet Identity: Daniel Lim on Book Cover

Snap-Shot of my ARPC Camp Booklet (2009)

Everyone of us has a camp booklet which contains mainly the sermon and bible studies outlines. the front page is for you to write your name and group number in case it gets misplaced.

So... other than writing names. What else can we do? Draw. =)

Free Time Newspaper Image Caricature: Hannah Montana, Barack Obama, Tan Sri Abu

One of the Kids' Favourite: Hannah Montana

President of the USA: Barack Obama
Tan Sri Abu Sahid Mohamed: I don't know who he is. But the Malaysians may know.

We were in the Palace of the Golden Horses from 3 to 7 June 2009 for our Church Camp. Every morning there will be a newspaper hanging on our hotel door. Not much time to read newspapers except when we got back from the talks and while Hsinying takes her shower.

I noticed Malaysian newspapers like to take portrait snap-shots of the person in the news and place it beside the article.

That also means there are there to be caricatured!!! Haha.. It happens that in most hotels, they provide writing pads and a pen. So very conveniently I took their pen and paper and started my doodling activites in between shower waiting time.

Caricature @ The Singapore Philatelic Museum on 31 May 2009 (Part 1 of 3)

It was a great cariature session at the Singapore Philatelic Museum.
I was not alone there, Adam, my other partner who is a 'PR' master, brought in most of the humor and that brightens and lightens the entire atmosphere a lot.
Personally I'm very encouraged by many sporty 'subjects' willing to be caricatured. If you are reading this and you happened to be one of them I sincerely thank you for being there to make the day fruitful and enjoyable for all of us.

Another Caricature of Myself

This caricature of myself was done in a lecture room in between talks (I stress in between talks). I listen you know. I had a picture of myself in my mobile phone and decided to look at it again. It was a picture of me holding a cup in my mouth and and looking cross-eyed. Then I said to myself, its time for fun again... and I drew myself and laughed at myself. That's cool. =) What a way to pass time in between breaks.

Lunch Time Cariature in Golden Miles Complex =)

I had to bring my students to Kallang for their 2-Star Kayaking Course today and had lunch in Golden Miles Complex. For those not familiar with Singapore, Golden Miles Complex is where many Thais gather with lots of Thai shops and restaurants. Many people also board buses to Johor in Golden Mile.
So back to my story. I ordered a yummy TomYam Seafood Noodle Soup and an Ice-Tea. After my meal I sat for a while longer to read my book. Just before deciding to leave I noticed just beside where I was was a lady in a little corner shop selling Thai stuffs. And I decided to caricature her. I wanted to give it to her after I finished but was a little apprehensive. I was afraid that her husband (if she is married) or her boyfriend (if she has one) will run after me if I approach her to give her my drawings!!! Hahahahahaha... Hillarious. So I decided to keep it to myself.
After drawing the lady I saw a security guard walking pretty aimlessly wth a very caricaturable face... haaaaaaaa got to draw him. =) Before I could finish him he went missing. Who knows where he went to.
After lunch it is a long and hot way back to Kallang Sea Sports Centre. 15 minutes walking time. I dreaded it because I was all wet (sweat) walking to Golden Miles. And all wet (sweat) back to the centre. But I was glad I had two drawings done to share them with you. Wish I had taken a secret photo of them....

Niu Gensheng- The Dairy Industry King in China

Caricatured directly from pen.
I was looking through my caricature collection and found this stranded within the folder. How could I miss it and not post it to share it with you. I caricatured him from a book cover that describes Mr Niu's history from beginning his career at Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group Co Ltd (Yili) as a milk bottle washer in 1982. I didn't read that book. My wife did. She was preparing for her MBA assignment based on Mr. Niu's life story.
"Because of his hard work and intelligence, Niu rapidly ascended to general manager. But in 1999, Niu resigned because of irreconcilable differences with then boss, Zheng Junhuai. That year, he founded Mengniu Dairy Industry (Group) Co Ltd (Mengniu). In eight years, the 48-year-old has transformed the company from the 1116th ranked dairy producer in China to number one".

Caricatures: Today's Caricature: My Form Class 4N2: 27 March 09

It was the morning mother tougue reading period when Mr. Pandian (another form-teacher of 4N2) passed to me a list of photo of our class.

While the students were reading, I took out an A4 paper and started drawing one of them. Then it became two, then three, then four... then the whole class of boys from the class.

Caricature @ ARPC: Childrens' Church BBQ on 20 March 2009

It was a cool evening after a light shower. I did my carpark duty (for an hour) over at the Singapore Bible College and was just in time for some cooked BBQ chicken wings and delicious Satays at 1945hrs.
During the time of parents and teachers' interaction, Janice (top left) came to me and requested that I drew some cartoons for her. She had became a mini-fan of my cartoons when she first saw a cartoon I drew. That cartoon was a bearded guy, which actually was part of my notes taken during the morning sermon in church. That's right, I take notes using cartoons... =)
Since Janice could not think of what I should draw and what to draw on, I suggested drawing on a paper plate. Immediately I popped into the church office to grab whatever pen I could find.
The first drawing for the night turned out to be a caricature of Janice. Then for the next hour and a half I drew close to 10 kids using the back of Paper Plates and a pilot V-5 Hi-Techpoint pen taken from Karen's (ARPC Staff Worker) table.

Caricature @ ACAS: Full Body & Color

Did 3 full-body colored caricatures on 8" by 5" cards on 21 March 2009.
Very handy and easy to keep.

Assoc Prof Fatimah Lateef (MP) - Free Time Sketch

 Photo found later...
Saw this public figure being interviewed on the TV news . I just happened to have my faithful Pilot G-2 with me and a piece of paper within my reach. With less than 10 seconds to observe the features before the next news scene, I got this out mainly from memory.
Sketched using a Pilot G-2
